Essential oils react to heat and light, which is why they are packaged in dark coloured glass bottles. Store them tightly capped and away from sunlight when not in use. Like any natural product, essential oils may oxidize as they age. Generally they will last up to 2 years, but we encourage you to use them when they are fresh and enjoy them often!
The following table provides measuring guidelines for a safe mixture for skin application: Essential oils are packaged with a dropper cap, and are commonly measured by drops:
Dilution | Quantity of Essential Oil | Quantity of Carrier Oil |
---|---|---|
1% | 3 drops | 15ml = 1 tablespoon = 300 drops |
2% | 6 drops | 15ml = 1 tablespoon = 300 drops |
3% | 9 drops | 15ml = 1 tablespoon = 300 drops |
5% | 15 drops | 15ml = 1 tablespoon = 300 drops |
Not necessarily. Essential Oils are extracted from plants and thus contain natural components. Fragrance oils and other scented oils used in many retail products and the perfume industry are synthetically created in the laboratory to smell similar to Lavender or Tea Tree or other Essential Oils. A combination of synthetic fragrances and natural essential oils may be found in a wide variety of toiletries, soaps, bath products, air freshners and so on. If in doubt, check the label and look for 100% Essential Oils. ‘Fragrance or Fragranced oils’ are NOT Essential Oils.
